Oldonyo Lengai Climbing

DAY 01: Arusha to Natron
Depart from Arusha at around 0830am and drive via Mto wa mbu and Engaruka village to Lake Natron crossing the Manyara escarpments. Visit the Maasai village at Selela and the Engaruka ruins. Though you may see game in the area, particularly in the wet season, this place is not so much about game viewing as experiencing the awe-inspiring space and immense views.  Picnic Lunch and Game drive en route to Lake

DAY 02:Lake Natron
Breakfast at around 0700am. Spend all of day three exploring the river and waterfalls near the campsite of Lake Natron. Trek across the mineral lake observing the many birds that feed on the lake. Eat a hot lunch at the campsite and chat with the local Maasai. This area is home to nomadic Maasai and it is really impressive to see how they manage to conduct a lifestyle, unchanged for many hundreds of years, in such a harsh environment. This area is definitely for those looking
for the more adventurous safari. Dinner and Overnight at Lake Natron Bush Camp.
If interested, climb Oldonyo Lengai, a volcanic mountain in Lake Natron. Begin hiking at midnight, reaching the peak at dawn. View the molten lava in the volcano and descend the mountain to return to camp for a hot breakfast. Oldonyo Lengai means mountain of god in the Maasai language. Accord ng to Maasai tradition, god lives at the top of Oldonyo Lengai and the sound created by the magma is the voice of god

DAY 03: Full Day Creator tour
Breakfast at around 0700am. Take Picnic Lunch with you and drive to Ngorongoro crater rim with Game drive en route, passing through Olduvai Gorge the site for Leakey's family discoveries of fossils of human and animal ancestors dating back to almost two million years. Read the history of the famous archaeological site. Dinner and Overnight at Simba Campsite

DAY 04: Highlands walking Ngorngoro
After breakfast, drive to Nainokanoka village. Start your walking into Olmoti crater for at least 2 – 3 hours. Drive to Empakai Crater for walk in a forested. Hike down from the east rim of the crater floor lake, where huge flocks of flamingos breed. This will be a full day Tour Dinner and overnight in Manyara Twiga Campsite

Day 05: Lake Manyara NP.

After early breakfast, drive afew kms to Lake Manyara National Park for game viewing with packed lunch boxes. And later drive back to Arusha.

[Lake Manyara National Park has a wonderful mosaic of different habitats, which attracts a whole host of animals including a high density of elephants. Look out for monkeys, antelopes, zebras and hippos too. There are also lions and some have developed the unusual behavior of climbing trees for their afternoon snooze. However, they have not mastered the art of dragging their kill high into the branches, as the leopard is so adept at doing.

Birdlife is fascinating at Lake Manyara and numbers are at their peak during the rainy season when seed-eaters, insect-eaters and water birds thrive. Nomadic quelea (finch-like birds), gather in breeding flocks of many thousands and fly across Lake Manyara National Park in vast twittering clouds. Pelicans, storks, geese, herons and cormorants share their water world with migrant flamingoes, which come and feed on the algae rich water and turn the crystalline edges of the soda lake a vibrant pink].

Option 2


DAY 1:
You will be picked from the Airport by Kilimanjaro Trekkers representative and be transferred to Hotel at Mto wa Mbu for briefing and overnight.
DAY 2:
You meet your Guide, donkey and donkey raiders at Nairokanoka Village on the slopes of Olmoti Crater. The hike proceeds to Empakaii Crater. At Empakaii, you will have time to explore the rim of the Crater. Camping will be on the Crater rim to minimize the environmental impacts on the Crater floor eco-system.
An extra day can be added here to explore the Olmoti Crater. The Olmoti Crater is the primary fresh water supply for the Ngorongoro Crater and is full of wildlife, birds and the Munge waterfalls. Camping will be near a Maasai Boma.
DAY 3:
The day is spent exploring the Empakaii Crater floor. The Lake is a primary a breeding ground for flamingos, the forest is full of birds, buffalo and hyena inhabit the plains, and there is a good chance of spotting a leopard in the early evening. Camping will be on the Crater Rim.
DAY 4:
You cross the Crater Highlands and arrive at Naiyobi Village, here you will have an opportunity to visit a Maasai school, a clinic, talk with local elders, and immerse yourself in Maasai Village life. (As a gesture of friendship you may want to bring medicines, hospital & school equipment, pencils and sharpeners, pens, notebooks for the school kids and you can also supply a few Maasai blankets for the elders, starting by presenting to the Chief of the Village. If you are lucky you will find a cultural activity, i.e. a marriage or circumcision ceremony in progress and will be free to participate. Camping will be in a forest on the edge of the rift valley escarpment.
DAY 5:
You descend the Rift valley escarpment to Ol Doinyo Lengai, a volcano and the home of the Maasai God. We will camp at Engaresero village or at the base of Lengai for early sleeps for at 11.30 that same night, you will be awaken and set out to climb. Just after midnight you will start your 5 hour ascent of the Volcano that night at 12.00 midnight and back again to the Camp the next afternoon. Dinner and a half sleeping nights at the Camping site.
DAY 6:
After our descent and taking your breakfast, you will be given enough time to rest. Afterwards you will be transferred to a permanent Kamakiya campsite on the Engaresero River where there is a sacred waterfall famous for its healing properties. After a traditional Maasai meal, you will relax at the Campsite and later visit the nearby waterfalls. Overnight at Campsite.
DAY 7:
After breakfast a walk around the shores of Lake Natron at Engaresero village which hosts a large population of flamingoes and many other large bird species. A flock of flamingoes make a particularly dazzling pink display against the light blue background of the Lake waters. After lunch a walk to Engaruka ruins and a visit to traditional irrigation schemes. Overnight at Kamakiya Campsite.
DAY 8:
After breakfast, you can be transferred to either the famous National Parks – Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater at an extra cost or return to Moshi by our 4WD motor vehicles ready to conquer the giant Mount Kilimanjaro.
End of the Ngorongoro Highland Hiking Tour towards Lake Natron & Ol Doinyo Lengai Mountain.
NOTE: Extra days can be added to explore the shores of Lake Natron where Camping can be made at the permanent Camp along the Ngare Sero River at extra cost.
